Cornwall Manor’s Ralph L. Weik Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to Cornwall Manor employees and their families, awarded four $5,000 scholarships during a reception in August.

The Weik Scholarship Fund was established in 1991 and honors the memory of Ralph L. Weik, a dedicated maintenance employee with 27 years of service. Cornwall Manor residents who are retired educators comprise the selection committee that reviews scholarship applications and selects the recipients annually.

The scholarship recipients are:

Allie Nolt has been a nursing assistant since May 2022. She will attend Liberty University to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Allie lives in Myerstown.

Jocelyn Shaffer has been our Health Center Activity Supervisor and Corporate Compliance Officer since 2018. Jocelyn has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Brigham Young University in Recreation Management and Youth Leadership with an Emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. Jocelyn is working towards her Associates of Science in Nursing Registered Nurse (RN) degree from Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences. She lives in Elizabethtown.

Scarla Collado-Damian began at Cornwall Manor in June 2019 and currently is a Unit Manager. She lives in Lebanon and will be attending UPMC School of Nursing’s Registered Nursing (RN) Diplomacy Program.

Natalia Abreu Lora began at Cornwall Manor in 2021 as one of our valued Housekeepers. She lives in Lebanon and will attend Harrisburg Area Community College to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Each scholarship recipient was awarded a $4,500 scholarship. However, at the reception, a surprise announcement was made from a donor in attendance, who donated an additional $2,000, giving each recipient an extra $500, which totaled $5,000 for each recipient. The Weik Scholarship Fund has provided over 130 scholarships for Cornwall Manor employees or their spouses and dependents to assist them with post-secondary education.

Thanks to gifts from residents and employees, the Scholarship Fund contains over $210,000. An annual fundraising appeal to employees and residents, in addition to interest earned from the fund provides the scholarship support.
