Special thanks to our Mt. Gretna neighbors Don and Vicki Kensinger for presenting this fascinating program today on Navajo rugs! We are delighted to offer life-long learning opportunities on a variety of topics.

When avid Navajo rug collector, Don "Stone" Kensinger and his wife Vicki, moved into an idyllic Mount Gretna cottage in 2012, one of Pennsylvania's historic Chautauqua towns, they were given a mysterious item that had been handed down from owner to owner since the cottage had been built in the late 1800s. Casual conversations with new neighbors led to a multiyear, cross-country adventure as Stone began to uncover the connections between the original owner of the cottage, W. Theodore Wittman; the forested, lake-front town of Mount Gretna; and Stone's continuing passion
for the Diné and their weavings.

Eleven hundred miles separate the Navajo Reservation from Mount Gretna, PA. Despite this vast distance, numerous Navajo rugs have migrated to Mount Gretna. The stories associated with these wonderful weavings and their provenance are the topics of this presentation.

Manor Shoppe specials this week!

For the dog lovers in our community, the Manor Shoppe has super cute lunch bags complete with a sketch of a dog. There are portable water bowls and the very necessary “Poop, There It Is” bags. And to remind you to take your favorite fur friend for a walk, our “Dog Needs a Walk” sign is perfect. Then it reverses to read “Dog Walked” when your mission is accomplished.

For the cat lovers, check out our kittens (we have three of them) and a bag decorated with a sketch of cats.

Not a dog or a cat, but we do now have spider plants courtesy of Laurie Clement who started these from her spider plant.

The Manor Shoppe is conveniently located in the Freeman Community Center and is open Mondays, 9 AM to 3 PM; Tuesdays-Fridays from 9 AM to 1 PM and on Saturdays from 11 AM-1 PM. The Shoppe is a project of the Cornwall Manor Society. All profits from your purchases benefit Benevolent Care.

Much of that could be list if it is not gathered and preserved now for future generations. Catching up on Life Engagement programs this week...On Wednesday, resident Judy Borger presented a program on Andrew Wyeth, who was an American realist painter, renowned for his detailed and evocative works that often-depicted rural life in Pennsylvania and Maine. Judy was a docent at the Brandywine Rive Museum.

Today, the husband-and-wife flute and tuba duo of Patrick Sciannella and Amy Ridings performed for our residents. A flute and tuba duo creates a unique and captivating blend of light, airy melodies and deep, resonant harmonies, offering a delightful contrast in musical textures.
