Changes at Manor Café Sustainable and Convenient
Manor Café, sits within the Freeman Community Center and is a quick dining option available to Cornwall Manor residents, employees and guests. The café is open Monday-Saturday from 7:15 AM to 3 PM and serves a variety of items, including all menu items from the breakfast and lunch menus, specialty coffees (cappuccino, latte, espresso, fresh ground regular and decaf coffee with a variety of flavor choices) and freshly made pastries and muffins.
Some recent positive additions and changes have taken place at Manor Café. Now you can order a freshly-made and healthy smoothie available in strawberry, banana, wild berry, watermelon, mango or peach flavors for $3 each. Another popular addition, which began in August, is now Manor Café, Freeman and Skylight Dining Rooms are accepting credit cards as payment. Cash payment and the option for residents to charge to their monthly accounts are still available.
Another modification that took place are sustainable changes recommended by the Dining Services Committee – a group comprised of residents who meet with a staff liaison as part of Cornwall Manor’s Residents Association. Since the suggestions were shared, Cornwall Manor has switched their to-go coffee cups from Styrofoam to paper, plastic straws were eliminated and in its place we are now using paper and coffee stirrers have transitioned from plastic to wooden. The Committee, along with Cornwall Manor’s Executive Chef, are still looking into the possibility of changing the Styrofoam take-out containers.
The Residents Association has nine different committees – activities, buildings and grounds, communications, dining, garden and greenhouse, health services, resident representatives, tree and wellness. The Residents Association provides opportunities for residents to become involved in maintaining the lifestyle of the Cornwall Manor community. Each committee meets with a staff liaison and the Association provides various means of communication with Cornwall Manor’s Administration regarding residents’ concerns and suggestions.
We are grateful to our residents for bringing these environmentally-friendly suggestions to our attention. We are proud of our Cornwall Manor community that encourages residents and staff to work together to better the environment.
