Morry Albertson – A Life in the Details

July 2025

At 98 years young, Morry Albertson is a shining example of how creativity, curiosity and craftsmanship can enrich every stage of life. Since 2003, he has resided in the historic Buckingham Mansion at Cornwall Manor, in a second floor apartment. The large bay window provides plenty of natural light and offers a peaceful view of the Mansion lawn – a perfect setup for his favorite pastime: building miniature kits.

Miniature model kits have a rich and fascinating history that spans over a century, blending craftsmanship, engineering and creativity into a beloved hobby for millions around the world. The modern era of model kits began in the 1930s with the introduction of plastic as a modeling material. World War II further fueled interest in model-making, especially military-themed kits like aircraft, tanks and ships. These models were used for both training and recreation and the war accelerated advancements in plastics and molding techniques. Today, Miniature kits now cover everything from automotive garages and Victorian dollhouses to fantasy castles and spacecraft, appealing to a wide range of interests and skill levels.

Morry’s passion for miniatures is more than a hobby—it’s a way of life. With a steady hand and a sharp eye for detail, he spends 15 to 20 hours on each project, carefully assembling tiny pieces into intricate scenes. “Some are more complicated than others,” he says, “but I enjoy the challenge.” His favorite build? An automotive garage, complete with all the tiny tools, tires and parts you’d expect in a full-sized one. “I’ve always liked doing things with my hands,” Morry shares. “It keeps me busy, and I really enjoy seeing the finished product come together.”

Each kit arrives with all the necessary parts, but it’s Morry’s patience and precision that bring them to life. A card table nestled into the corner of his living room is his dedicated workbench and evidence of his dedication—neatly organized, with every tool in its place, ready for the next project. Whether it’s a cozy cottage, a bustling storefront or a vintage garage, Morry approaches each build with the same level of care and enthusiasm.

When he’s not immersed in his miniature worlds, Morry enjoys reading—a quieter but equally fulfilling pastime. Books offer him a chance to explore new ideas and stories, a perfect balance to the hands-on focus of his model-making.

Before moving to Cornwall Manor with his beloved wife, Miriam, Morry lived in the charming community of Mount Gretna. The couple made the move in January 2003, drawn by the welcoming atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. Now, more than two decades later, Morry continues to thrive in his home in the Buckingham Mansion, where history, creativity and community come together.

His story is a reminder that staying engaged—both mentally and physically—can bring joy and purpose at any age. Whether he’s turning tiny parts into a masterpiece or turning the pages of a good book, Morry Albertson is proof that it’s never too late to keep building, learning and enjoying the little things.
