Meet the Artists
Rita van Alkemade
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Parkside with a BA in Fine Art (magna cum laude), Rita furthered her studies in sculpture at the Ringling College of Art and Design. Her award-winning work spans clay, wood, metal and stone and she now focuses on sculptural papier mâché. Rita’s current series, Bird Women, blends the essence of real birds with the female form, imagining women who can soar with their minds to limitless realms. Her work is deeply inspired by the indigenous cultures and natural beauty of Africa, South America and Mexico.

Randy Leibowitz Dean
Randy’s artistic journey began in childhood and blossomed in the 1970s with figure drawing and portraiture. She gained recognition for her hand-painted fabrics and later worked in interior design in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, specializing in murals and trompe l’oeil. A pivotal moment in 2012 led her to wood carving and she now creates intricate mixed-media pieces that incorporate fiber, wire, beading and her self-taught micro-macramé techniques. Her work invites viewers to look closer and appreciate the textures and stories within.

Art on Display
• Rita: Sculptural Bird Women series
• Randy: Micro-macramé, wood carvings, paintings and handcrafted necklaces

A Creative Connection
Rita and her husband Tim moved to Gatehouse Lane in November 2021. Randy and her husband Jim joined the The Woods community in August 2024. As the Deans settled in, many encouraged Randy to meet Rita. Their paths finally crossed at the Dog Park—and the connection was instant. Over lunch and shared stories, a friendship blossomed, rooted in mutual respect and a deep love for art. This exhibit is the result of that connection and a shared desire to bring beauty and inspiration to Cornwall Manor. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us!
