May 11 is National Train Day
Cornwall Manor’s Railroad Club occupies 1,300 square feet of the renovated Mule Barn at 100 Rexmont Road, directly across from Cornwall Manor’s Health Center. With more than 75 pieces of rolling stock, the Club operates two layouts.
There are a lot of railroad songs: Orange Blossom Special, Wreck of the Old 97, Wabash Cannon Ball; but none sound better than the song of the Cornwall Railroad Club’s trains when they are operating at full throttle.
Started in 2015 the club now operates extensive “O” and “HO” gauge layouts in the renovated Mule Barn. The O gauge layout is the blending of members Dave Orledge and Gerry Boltz’s layouts developed over years in their own homes. It has four independent tracks plus an Amusement Park of interactive rides that delight the child in all of us. The HO layout depicts Cornwall and Lebanon circa 1950, with dozens of scaled buildings, including Cornwall Manor, crafted by club member Dick Williams.
Club membership is open to all Cornwall Manor residents plus interested members of the community. Meetings are held he third Tuesday of each month in the Mule Barn at 10 AM. Plans for 2024 include the expansion of the HO layout and an upgrade to portions of the existing plan. There are two public open houses each year.
