Now in its vibrant fourth season, Artful Connections is a dynamic, multi-faceted arts program designed to engage and inspire residents of Cornwall Manor. Open to independent living residents—with select offerings also available to those in personal and skilled care—this inclusive initiative ensures that everyone has the opportunity to explore their creativity.

Each season brings a fresh lineup of classes and workshops that nurture the body, mind, and spirit. Residents can immerse themselves in expressive watercolor painting, the cultural richness of African Mud Cloth, the tactile joy of clay sculpture, or the energy of a drumming circle. Storytelling and the spirited CM Players drama group bring narratives to life, while woodworking and CM Sings!—a welcoming, non-auditioned chorale—offer hands-on and harmonious ways to stay engaged.

Whether you’re a seasoned card player or new to the table, there’s something for everyone. Join a round of Cribbage, Pinochle, or Poker, test your vocabulary with Scrabble, or enjoy the strategy and tradition of American Mah-Jongg. Cornwall Manor’s beautiful campuses span over 190 acres and offers residents the chance to connect with nature and each other through a variety of outdoor gardening spaces. The Trailside Organic Farm provides fresh, sustainably grown organic produce and opportunities to learn about organic farming. Residents can also cultivate their own plots in the Resident Vegetable Gardens or participate in beautifying the campus in the Community Garden Areas. These outdoor spaces promote wellness, sustainability and a strong sense of community through hands-on engagement with the earth.

Cornwall Manor offers a rich variety of music programs that bring residents together through song, performance, and shared appreciation. From singing in the Manor Men’s Chorus or the Zerr Chapel Choir, to ringing in harmony with the Hand Bell Choir, there are opportunities for all skill levels. Residents can also enjoy live performances through the Friday Afternoon Concerts, the seasonal Concert Series, and the outdoor Fountain Concerts, which fill the campus with music and community spirit. The Patriot Committee at Cornwall Manor is made up of retired service members from all branches of the armed forces. This dedicated group plans and leads meaningful Memorial Day and Veterans Day programs, honoring those who have served our country. Each year on Flag Day, the committee proudly raises a new American flag on campus, symbolizing unity, respect, and patriotism. Their efforts help preserve the spirit of service and remembrance within the Cornwall Manor community.

The Intergenerational Pen Pals program connects residents and students across age groups through the timeless art of letter writing. By pairing younger and older participants, the program fosters meaningful friendships, encourages storytelling and builds mutual understanding. It’s a simple yet powerful way to share wisdom, spark joy and create lasting bonds—one letter at a time. At the end of the school year, Pen Pals come together for a special celebration where they finally meet face-to-face, turning their written friendships into real-life connections.

The Poetry Group at Cornwall Manor gathers every other month in the historic Music Room in the Buckingham Mansion for an afternoon of literary expression and thoughtful conversation. Residents are invited to bring poems—whether their own creations or favorite works by other poets—to share with the group. It’s a welcoming space for reflection, inspiration and connection through the beauty of language.

The Railroad Club at Cornwall Manor offers ample space to bring together residents who share a love for trains and model railroading. With more than 75 pieces of rolling stock, the Club operates two layouts – O gauge and HO gauge. Whether you’re a lifelong enthusiast or just curious, the club offers a chance to build, operate, and admire detailed model train layouts while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow hobbyists. It’s a great way to connect, create, and celebrate the rich history and charm of railroads.

Cornwall Manor is home to two unique on-campus stores that offer both convenience and community impact. The Manor Shoppe Gift and Convenience Store provides everyday essentials and thoughtful gifts, while the Treasure Trove Thrift Store features gently used items at great prices. Both shops are staffed by dedicated volunteers and directly support benevolent care for residents in need. Volunteering at either location is a rewarding way to give back while staying active and connected within the community.

Cornwall Manor’s campus offers a variety of walking trails that promote wellness and connection with nature. Nestled on 190 wooded acres, the campus features multiple scenic paths ideal for walking and birdwatching, with access to the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail, a popular regional trail for walking, biking and enjoying the outdoors

A feature on campus is the LifeTrail system, a 7/10-mile loop that includes ten outdoor fitness stations designed specifically for older adults. These stations, located along Wildflower Lane and through the Gatehouse Lane neighborhood, offer low-impact exercises that enhance strength, balance, flexibility and mobility. Developed in collaboration with Penn State experts in gerontology and kinesiology, LifeTrail encourages functional fitness with activities like leg and arm pedaling, torso stability exercises, and wheelchair-accessible stretches

Together, the campus trails, LifeTrail stations and Rail Trail access create a vibrant environment that supports physical health, independence, and a deep appreciation for the natural surroundings.

 

Cornwall Manor offers a diverse and inclusive range of wellness programs designed to support every resident’s physical, mental and emotional well-being. The fitness center, indoor pool, and spa provide spaces for both relaxation and activity. Residents can participate in a variety of group classes, including aqua walk, aqua weights, water volleyball, aqua fitness, aqua stretch, band together, wonder weights, body balance, chair yoga, gentle yoga, Zumba Gold and sunrise morning stretch. For those who enjoy recreation and friendly competition, there are billiards and table tennis leagues for both men and women, as well as pickleball, cycling groups, bocce, and meditation sessions. With so many options and a full-time fitness and recreation coordinator, residents can find enjoyable and engaging ways to stay active and connected every day.

The Woodshop at Cornwall Manor is a fully equipped space where residents can create, build, and explore their passion for woodworking. Whether you’re an experienced craftsman or just starting out, the shop offers tools, materials, and a supportive environment to work on personal projects or contribute to community initiatives.
